There is some confusion about which classes we are all taking because one class we didn’t sign up for is now mandatory. So as of right now we are all in three. We are waiting for Dr. Wiseman to get here (I think he arrives on Monday) to tell us what we need for our minor.
Our classes start at 9. The first one is conversation with a very nice professor named Cristobal (Christopher). This class I think is going to be very helpful. He really seems to care about us and wants to help us learn. The next class is at 10:30. This class is Intro to Hispanic Literature with a professor named Coro (I don’t what that is in English). I think this is going to be the hardest class. It is the one I don’t want to take, but I think it is required for our minor and I already bought the book. We need to ask Dr. Wiseman what the deal is. The next class starts at 12:30 and is Composition with Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson is VERY intense. He is from the US but has been teaching here for many years. He is about 85 years old (maybe not but he looks like it) and is SO HARDCORE!! I think I will learn a lot in this class but we will see. Each class is an hour and a half. Very tiring and they are all in Spanish…even more tiring. Yesterday, I had a headache from thinking so much in Spanish and trying to speak it.
We have been going on many tours of Seville with one of the ladies in charge of us, Elly. She also is very hardcore. She speaks English but she wants us to speak only in Spanish. She talks to us in Spanish and gives us our tours in Spanish. Don’t worry I don’t understand most of what she is saying. I nod and smile. The tricky part about that is basically all the time she will point someone out and say explain what I just said. Trust me, it is not easy.It is very different when talking with those who are fluent. I know it will be good to speak only in Spanish and I hope to really learn a lot. I know it takes several days to get adjusted and I am realizing that. Yesterday, I really wanted to go home (our first full day in Seville). I think I was just exhausted from jet lag, and hungry, dehydrated, overwhelmed, etc. I am feeling MUCH better. Many of the people from CU feel the same way, so that makes me feel better.
I live about 30 minutes away from the university and I am rooming with a girl named Melissa from CU. ! We take the bus into town every day to the university with another girl from our group Katie.
Our senora and her daughter are very sweet. They are always kind and seem like they really want to get to know us. Our senora used to have her own restaurant so she is a wonderful cook! She even took us to see a movie this past weeked. Nocho el el Museo 2 (Night at the Museum 2)...in spanish.
Seville is a beautiful city. I want to walk around sometime and familiarize myself with it (of course with friends). We have been on several tours of the city and it is beautiful!

I have always wanted to study abroad, and here I am in Seville, Spain for six weeks! I am taking classes to finish off my Spanish minor with a group from Cedarville.
It looks like Seville is a beautiful city. Isn't there a song about Seville?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like something out of a story book.
